The Pony Club started in Great Britain in 1928 with 700 members. The United States joined the program in 1954. By 1992 there were more than 130,000 members in 31 countries, making it the largest equestrian group in the world.
Today, the United States Pony Clubs have more than 12,000 members and more than 600 clubs throughout the United States. The USPC founders were enthusiastic foxhunters who recognized the need for an organization to provide sound instruction for all interested children, especially those who otherwise could not afford expensive lessons.
The mission of the United States Pony Clubs is to provide a program for youth that teaches riding, mounted sports, and the care of horses and ponies, thereby developing responsibility, oral judgment, leadership and self confidence.
